This week we are catching up with Aira from our Communications Team based in our London HQ so that we can see what an average day looks like as a Communications Officer.
My alarm goes off at …
7:30am but I press snooze about 10 times before actually getting up.
I start my day by …
Doing some meditation and writing down three things I’m grateful for then getting the tube into Central London. I also like to read on the tube. This gives me such a productive and meaningful start to the day.
Currently I’m reading:
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
I’m responsible for…
Handling our Communications Inbox, promoting and raising awareness of the Trust to our internal colleagues as well as stakeholders and service users. Posting on social media and ensuring content is up to date.
The best thing about my job is…
The rewarding, dynamic and diverse aspect of the role, there’s always something different going on everyday. No two days are the same and you never know what to expect.
Advice I’d give to someone getting in the industry…
Stay organised and keep smiling! You are always meeting new people and it is always important to know who, when and why you’re meeting but to also make sure you are building and maintaining your working relationships.
An average day:
Firstly, I get into the office and catch up on all emails. Make sure they are answered or if tasks need to be actioned, then to make sure this goes onto my to-do list.
Editing a video project: ELFT Video News. I did some filming for it yesterday and the deadline for the video to be produced is today so I made sure that the video was finalised and uploaded to our YouTube channel.
Social media content planning. I make sure that there is always content lined up for our social media. I like to do this monthly and weekly. We also have a weekly team meeting so that we can update the team on our priorities for the week and see if other members of the team can help on specific projects.
Lunch! Best part of the day.
Make sure emails are being checked throughout the day. I attend a meeting on another filming project that I am leading on in Bedford.
Admin tasks – updating our staff intranet and stakeholder list. I always need to make sure this is kept up to date. I also like to check our social media or post sometimes.
Hometime! Ready for another day at the office tomorrow.
At home, I relax and practice self-care making sure that I switch off from work. I enjoy doing things like reading a book, watching my favourite show, spending time with family or playing with my dog. I think it is so important to have a work-life balance.
